Editing

As an editor, I’ve worked with writers of all experience levels to guide and craft compelling longform narratives, short reads, profiles, service features and guides, infographic stories, large-scale magazine packages, magazine sections, special issues, and even the occasional nonfiction book. My passion — and specialty — is working with fellow editors, writers and designers to tell the stories that really stick with a reader.

Here, a snapshot of some of my favorite editing projects.

The Waiting Game
If Philly is one of the greatest medical cities in America, why does it take so long to get a doctor’s appointment here — and does it have to be this way? (Editor of package; writer of story and sidebars.) Philadelphia magazine, May 2024

150 Ways to Do Philly Like a Tourist
The past two years have created a disconnect between many of us and the place we call home — which is why there’s never been a better time to get back out there and rediscover the greatest city on earth. This cover story won the 2023 City Regional Magazine Award for “best reader service.”  Philadelphia magazine, July 2022

The Great College Reckoning
I edited Philly Mag’s Sandy Hingston — an American Society of Magazine Editors award-winning writer — on her deep dive into the broken world of higher education.  Philadelphia magazine, September 2021

True South
It’s our most famous neighborhood— a place defined by its immigrants and its characters, by intermingling (sometimes clashing) cultures, and by near-constant change. But as prices rise and coffee shops pop up and transformation comes at warp speed, can South Philly hold on to what’s always made it unique? Philadelphia magazine, July 2019
(Stories by Sandy Hingston, Jason Sheehan, Cierra Williams and Brian Howard)

21 Reasons To Love the Shore. (Still. Again. Always.)
The Shore is as much a part of the Philly fingerprint as the Eagles or the cheesesteak or Will Smith or anything else that helps us find true north. As with any love affair, there’s mystery involved. Below, we do our best to pinpoint what it’s always been — and what it is right now, in 2019 — that keeps the allure so alive. Happy summer. You know where to find us. Philadelphia magazine, June 2019
